Her Majesty

Introducing The First Annual Austin Ice Cream Queen!

It's Judy from Whole Foods! Queen Judy, we bow down to your greatness and the amazing time everyone had in your presence yesterday. It was an honor to escort you around the festival. May all of your ice cream dreams come true!

Who Didn't Get Ice Cream?

If for any reason any person or family showed up and the heat and lines made it unbearable, send an email to doug@icecreamfestival.org and I will get you a special treat! It was crazy fun! I know the heat made it tough for the little ones. We went from a chance of thunderstorms all day to a storm of ice cream lovers! And again, congrats to Amy's and Ben & Jerry's for having ice cream until the end!

The Biggest Ice Cream Thanks!

To Jesse, Tammi and Lisa. This would not have happened without you!

The Homeade Ice Cream Winner!

The first spoon went to this decilicous entry! What a tasty treat! I loved it!!!!!!

Ice Cream Screaming

Ummmm. Did you know that kind of scream could come from little kids? If your a parent you probably do, but the judges were in awe by the decibel levels that were produced from such little packages. The winner hit 105 and a video will be posted this week. Wow! A well deserved spoon. You have to hear this.

The Ice Cream Eating Champion!

The race to finish first. 1/2 gallon of ice cream was consumed in roughly six minutes. By the time the winner was done, the next closest competitor was not nearly half way through! Congratulations! A spoon well earned.

Check out their blog! http://100percentcottam-austin.blogspot.com/2007/08/im-married-to-austin-ice-cream-festival.html

And The Winner Is...

The Queen is holding our winning popsicle sculpture! The others shown were on our list of top picks also and even though they did not get the spoon...they each get a visit from the The Float! (The Austin Ice Cream Truck).

For The Love of Ice Cream!

The First Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival was truly amazing. No one who helped plan and organize this event anticipated the number of people who would show up. It was incredible. When booths started running out of ice cream early in the afternoon, we knew something special was happening. Ben & Jerry's and Amy's were standing until the end! Thanks to everyone who showed up. It was a great success and we had more fun than you can imagine. :) More pictures coming soon.

Sweet And Not So Sweet

Took the kids to see Underdog this afternoon and decided to take The Float with us to Barton Creek Mall since we had not made an appearance here yet. When we got out of the movie, we had this ticket on our window and one of their security people threw away all of the beautiful flyers we had set out by the truck in case anyone stopped by to check it out. We were only there two hours to watch a movie and thought it would be fun. It is a bummer when you come across people who don't get it. This is an event where the proceeds are going to three great organizations to help kids and it amazed me from the reaction their security people gave us. They even followed The Float as we left. Not sweet. (Edit: Someone from their security called me to apologize Tuesday. Very nice guy and what an admirable thing to do! Free ice cream for you!)

Then the day paid off at the Dakota apartments when we met this little ray of sunshine and several other great kids. How sweet! Enjoy your treats! :)

Hire The Float For Your Next Party!

That's right! We are now taking limited reservations for The Austin Ice Cream Festival Truck aka The Float! We will show up to your party or event! OMG yes, this is how you get a party started!!!! Talk about a fun surprise.

Do you want to see an entire group of kids or adults scream??? It happens everytime we pull up :)

Clownin' Around

Well, just when you think things can't get any crazier, last night we run into a pack of 50 clowns. Literally. How fun is this!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they can make it out to the festival.

I am assuming this great group removed number three from the Clown Commandments :P

The Eight Clown Commandments

1.) I will keep my acts, performance and behavior in good taste while I am in costume and makeup. I will remember at all times that I have been accepted as a member of the clown club only to provide others, principally children, with clean clown comedy entertainment. I will remember that a good clown entertains others by making fun of himself or herself and not at the expense or embarrassment of others.

2.) I will learn to apply my makeup in a professional manner. I will provide my own costume. I will carry out my appearance and assignment for the entertainment of others and not for personal gain or personal publicity when performing for either the International club or alley events. I will always try to remain anonymous while in makeup and costume as a clown, though there may be circumstances when it is not reasonably possible to do so.

3.) I will neither drink alcoholic beverages nor smoke while in makeup or clown costume. Also, I will not drink alcoholic beverages prior to any clown appearances. I will conduct myself as a gentleman/lady, never interfering with other acts, events, spectators, or individuals. I will not become involved in or tolerate sexual harassment or discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or any protected status.

4.) I will remove my makeup and change into my street clothes as soon as possible following my appearance, so that I cannot be associated with any incident that may be detrimental to the good name of clowning. I will conduct myself as a gentleman/lady at all times.

5.) While on appearance in makeup and costume, I will carry out the directives of the producer or his designated deputies. I will abide by all performance rules without complaint in public.

6.) I will do my very best to maintain the best clown standards of makeup, costuming, properties, and comedy.

7.) I will appear in as many clown shows as I possibly can.

8.) I will be committed to providing an atmosphere free of discrimination and harassment for clowns of all ages to share ideas and learn about the art of clowning.

We stopped by Station 1 again and hooked 'em up with a whole pack of Superman Sticks. Thanks to our Supermen/women firefighters of Austin for all you do!

The night ended with a young bride to be enjoying a wonderful frozen treat. :)

Ice Cream Models

Had to run to Best Buy this am to replace our first causualty. Freezer number one went down. We are now on Freezer number two. Running 'em too hard I guess :)

When I came out to the lot, these lovely ladies were posing for a picture with their friend. I had to get one as well.

Stopped by our great sponsor Whole Foods after the new freeezer was in place and stocked up on some tasty treats and went to one of their company picnics. Great people, great times.

Then it was off to Beck's birthday party. He got to sit in the cat bird seat! Happy Birthday Beck!

Freedom

We started rolling last night at the Austin Freedom Fest. Lot's of ice cream was in order :)

News 8

We had a great time this afternoon at the News 8 studio! One of our delicious sponsors.

We did three live shots with reporter Ernie Pacheco. We brought Justin and Matt from Amy's, Tim from Austin Scoops and Joe from Piccomolo. The classic was when Ernie caught a scoop of ice cream that was thrown over the truck from Justin! Nice grab Ernie!

Justin and Matt had earlier practiced throwing from the roof of the News 8 building. Are we having fun yet? :)

You can catch a segment of us on News 8 every hour tonight.

Happy School Girls!

These cute girls visiting from Japan saw The Float rolling down the road and started taking pictures. We couldn't resist stopping and hooking them up with some Blue Bell Rainbow Pops!

BTW Last night outside of Stubbs was off the hook. The crowd was great and the ice cream was flowin!!!!!!!!

Mysterious Sighting

An ice cream fan sent us this picture as she spotted us on the road. Great job in capturing The Float! If anyone captures The Float on their camera or cell phone and shows us your photo you get FREE ICE CREAM! Just bring it by 1317 West 6th Street Monday-Friday from 10am - 5pm anytime before the Ice Cream Festival on August 18th.

Sunday we went to Zilker with more ICEE pops for the kids. Great times on a hot August day at Barton Springs. Our little ones got to see first hand what it's like to yell "Free Ice Cream" into a crowd :)
